The Education Resource Center provides the online resources listed in the table below. All resources listed are available from the computers in the ERC computer labs. The table also provides information about which resources are available from a remote location and, in the Comments column, describes some of the features of each resource.

BECON

BECON

web/Course management: BECON is used for delivering Web-enhanced course content such as learning materials, class presentations and assessments. Instructors do not need to know html to use Blackboard; content is added through the use of online forms, and files made in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and various other programs can be added directly into Blackboard. Students have 24/7 access to course materials in BECON. Yes, requires VPN (ERC-NST) BECON is currently behind a firewall. When you access BECON from your home computer or computers that are not in the BCM domain, you will need to use a VPN connection. Use your BECON userID and password to log on to the system. Remember, your ID and password is not the same as your Baylor email password. BECON and the Baylor email are independent of each other. Your password for BECON is issued by a BECON system administrator.
Exam Master

 

web/Medical: The Exam Master gateway is configured to allow 50 concurrent users access to the USMLE Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3 products. Each product is actually three products in one and, together, offer access to 16,000+ questions and explanations. Additionally, through this gateway, users can access the medical specialty board products as well as individual medical subjects and courses (new this year). Yes, requires VPN (ERC-NST) This gateway requires individuals to first register with the system (they need only do it once) and then use a username and password to access the main menu. The username and password are required because the system maintains personal information and examination and study history for each user.

web/Medical: McGraw-Hill's AccessMedicine.com is an innovative online resource that provides students, residents, clinicians, and researchers with instant answers to clinical questions from the most trusted sources. To keep pace with the changing practice of medicine, AccessMedicine delivers the latest medical advances and knowledge from recognized physicians delivered in a digital aggregation with online desktop, PDA, iPod, and MP3 compatible device solutions. The ERC has a five-seat simultaneous user license. AccessMedicine includes the content from the new 16th edition of Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine. You will also find:

Yes, requires VPN (ERC-NST) This interface provides the ability to download chapters of Harrison's to your PDA. You must register first but registration is free. You also have access to a self-assessment--800 multiple-choice questions accompanied by answers, detailed explanations, and chapter references to Harrison's Online. Perfect for board prep or as a clinical refresher! You select the subjects and the number of questions. Questions are randomized so you'll never take the same test twice!

web/Medical: Coming to you from the HAM-TMC Library, McGraw-Hill's AccessSurgery.com is an integrated online resource that provides medical students, surgical residents, and practicing surgeons with quick answers to surgical inquiries from trusted sources. Organized around the ACGME's (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) mandate for a Core Curriculum, AccessSurgery delivers content in context. web/Medical: UpToDate is a subscription-based clinical information resource. Topic reviews are written by physicians for physicians - nearly 3,000 physicians serve as authors. Content is comprehensive yet concise and it's fully referenced. It goes through an extensive peer review process to ensure that the information and recommendations are accurate and reliable. Yes, requires VPN (ERC-NST) Great User Manual includes topics on Conducting a Search, Making Slides, Citing UpToDate. It also offers an animated tutorial.
Netter's Interactive Atlas of Human Anatomy CD-ROM/Medical: No, accessible only from the ERC computers  
PharmaTutor freeware/Medical: PharmaTutor is an old (1987) computer program to assist the teaching of an introductory course in pharmacology. It was designed to make the teaching of pharmacology attractive and lively without the use of animals in experiments. The program consists of five parts, each one designed to be a self-contained practical class exercise that can be completed in relatively short time (20 to 25 minutes). PharmaTutor is "freeware", i.e. the program is available at no charge via the Internet. Full copyrights remain with the FFVFF, Zurich. VH Dissector server/Medical: The VH Dissector combines the power of cadaver dissection with the technology of virtual reality. It is based on the National Library of Medicine's Visible Human Project and was developed by the team of scientists at the University of Colorado that acquired the specimens and images that comprise the Visible Human DataSets™.

No, accessible only from the ERC computers The program is a enhances the cadaver dissection experience with views and combinations of anatomic structures unavailable in the real world. It also provides users access to cadavers with a virtual body containing over 2000 anatomic structures they can explore and learn from in a manner similar to cadaver dissection. This is not a web based product.
