Installing the Virtual Private Network (VPN) Client

You may wish to print these instruction before beginning the installation of the VPN client


Uninstalling the Old Client - watch video

  • Save and close any unsaved work or documents.
  • If a VPN Client was previously installed, you must uninstall the old VPN Client before installing the new client.
  • To uninstall the old VPN Client, go to Start -> Programs -> Cisco Systems VPN Client -> VPN Client and select uninstall if your are running 4.6 version
  • You will be prompted to remove all profiles and certificates.
    Answer “Yes” to completely uninstall the old client. If you answered “No”, you will run into start-up problems due to partial deletion of files.
  • When the uninstall process is completed, check “Yes, I want to restart my computer now” when prompted. Without a restart, the old VPN client is not completely removed.
  • Remove any shortcuts for the old VPN client.

Installing the new client - watch video

  • Download the new client from the following URL
    http://intranet.bcm.tmc.edu/index.cfm?tmp=it/helpdesk/hdremote_vpn
  • Double-click on the vpnclient.exe from where you saved it. Click on “Run” to begin the installation.
  • You will be prompted for a “Yes or No” answer to confirm that you have uninstalled the old client as described above in “Uninstalling the Old Client”. If you have not uninstalled the old client, click “No” and uninstall the client. Otherwise, click on “Yes” and continue your installation.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen.
  • After the installation is completed, select “Yes” to restart your computer. Without a restart, the new VPN Client cannot run.
  • Add shortcuts to your desktop as desired.



Using the VPN client - watch video

  • Connect to your Internet Service Provider (ISP – via modem/cable modem/DSL, etc...)
  • Make sure you have Internet access by going to an internet website like www.chron.com.
    If connecting to the Internet is successful, continue the remaining steps. If not, then there may be a communication problem from ISP to communicate with the Baylor network.
  • Load VPN client that you just setup by accessing it from Start -> Programs -> BCM VPN Client -> BCM VPN Client
    You should see the following window:


  • Change the Connection Entry from the default profile BCM-DEFAULT which is highlighted in bold letters to ERC-NST which is shown here selected in blue.
  • Click on “Connect.”
  • You need your enterprise computing account (ECA) to logon.
  • Once you are connected, you can access ERC resources as if you were at work.
